  1. detailed information

Inmetro is the Brazilian national accreditation body, which is responsible for formulating Brazilian national standards. Most product standards in Brazil are based on IEC and ISO standards. Manufacturers who need to export products to Brazil should refer to these two standards when designing products. Products that meet Brazilian standards and other technical requirements must be added with the mandatory Inmetro mark and the mark of an accredited third-party certification body before they can enter the Brazilian market.

The application of Inmetro logo can be divided into two categories: mandatory category and voluntary category, which are certified by certification body (CB). In addition, the Brazilian government also stipulates that some products must carry energy efficiency labels (smiley face labels), which are directly issued by Inmetro without the participation of certification agencies.

Mandatory category

·Steel pipe

·Cast iron pipe accessories

·Steel wire rope

·Automobile and motorcycle tires, wheels, batteries, shock absorbers, fuel pumps, horns, engine pistons, piston rings, piston pins, circlips, safety glass lamp auto parts

·Active medical devices

·Circuit breaker

·Live equipment used in explosive environment (explosion proof certification)

·Relevant equipment of gas system (pressure reducing valve and rubber tube)

·Switches, plugs and sockets

·Electronic ballast

·Wires and cables

·Voltage regulator

·Household appliances

·It equipment

Voluntary category

·Industrial valves

·Building materials, etc

Energy efficiency label

·Three phase motor

·Photovoltaic modules, etc

Certification process

In Inmetro certification, the most widely used certification mode is international general certification mode 5, which includes the testing of the product itself and the audit of the factory quality management system. At the same time, the mode also requires preliminary review and supervision review. The specific process is as follows:

Preliminary review:

1. analysis of product technical documents

2. define product family and determine test product model

3. initial factory audit

4. sampling)

5. laboratory evaluation (if applicable)

6. witness test (if applicable)

7. importer review

8. certification process review

9. issue certificate

Follow up supervision and review:

According to Brazilian laws, different products have different supervision and audit cycles, generally 6/9/12 months. The process is as follows:

Importer review

Sampling

Factory audit

Laboratory evaluation (if applicable)

Witness test (if applicable)

Importer review

Certification process review

Update certificate

Apply for certification

Domestic factories and traders can apply to the certification authority authorized by the Brazilian government.

Certification mark

The compulsory certification of Inmetro must be marked according to the relevant regulations of Inmetro. However, some products have put forward requirements for the product itself and the identification on the product packaging. The identification is as follows:

term of validity

According to Inmetro decree, different products have different certification validity periods. Generally 3 years (such as steel pipes) or 4 years (such as auto parts products).

matters needing attention

1. In Brazil, the plug must comply with the standard NBR 14136, NBR nm 60884-1. From January 1st, 2009, NEMA plugs were officially eliminated;

2. In case of CB report of circuit breaker products issued by other laboratories, some tests must be added (the scheme is designated by Brazil);

3. For miniature circuit breaker, i2t curve under each current must be submitted before certification;

4. There are IEC test reports and cig023 reports for electronics, which can be directly transferred to Inmetro certificate.
